Bodhicitta Samten Dzong Retreat Center in Portugal
Bodhicitta Samten Dzong retreat center is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal, in an area of natural beauty. A place for the study and practice of Dharma that is under the spiritual guidance of Chamtrul Rinpoche, and blessed by the unbroken lineages of Shakyamuni Buddha and Padmasambhava. Samten Dzong was inspired and built by Vishnou and Jean-Michel, two long-time students of the great masters, Kangyur Rinpoche, Dudjom Rinpoche and Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.
In 2024, Chamtrul Rinpoche consecrated the temple and placed 133 volumes of Buddhist teachings in the temple during the opening ceremony of Bodhicitta Samten Dzong Dharma Centre.
Summer retreats are organised every year on chosen subjects, and it is possible to stay in the centre for short retreats and attend conferences and workshops throughout the year.
The center shelter a temple, accommodations and a refectory. The temple can shelter about 50 people, which is also the capacity of the refectory. The accommodations offer up to 12 single beds in double bedrooms.
Location
Samten Dzong is located in the Alentejo region, approximately 1.5 hours by car from Lisbon Airport and 2 hours from Faro Airport. There are also regular and affordable bus services with Rede Expressos and train connections with Comboios de Portugal.
